OpenBark is built so your clinic's recordings and notes stay on your own devices. This page says exactly what leaves them, and when.
Last updated 25 October 2026. ANI.ML Health Inc., Toronto, Ontario, Canada. Questions: we.care@animl.health.
The short version
- Recordings, transcripts and notes are made and kept on your clinic's own computers and phones. We never receive them.
- The app has no analytics, no advertising and no tracking. It doesn't sell or share data, because it doesn't collect it.
- Recordings never leave the device that made them, even with encrypted sync turned on.
- Encrypted sync (a preview) moves transcripts and notes only between your own devices, through a computer in your clinic. Nothing goes to us: we run no servers for it.
What the app sends, and when
The OpenBark app on a computer or an iPhone connects to the internet only for the reasons below. Each one is listed, with its exact addresses, in our network document.
- Downloading models. When you choose a speech or note model, the app downloads it from Hugging Face. Hugging Face sees your device's internet address, like any download. Nothing about your patients is sent.
- Your own accounts, if you connect them. If your clinic connects its own Twilio account for phone calls, calls go through Twilio under your clinic's agreement with them. Recordings of those calls are made on your computer.
With none of these in use, OpenBark works fully offline.
Encrypted sync and the clinic hub (preview)
Encrypted sync is a preview, off unless you turn it on. Until its independent security review is finished, use it with test data only. One computer in your clinic becomes the clinic hub, and your phones and computers sync with it over your clinic's own network. Transcripts, notes and patient records travel encrypted, with keys that stay on your devices. Recordings never sync. Nothing goes to ANI.ML Health: there are no OpenBark accounts or emails, and we run no servers for sync.
If your clinic chooses, the hub can also keep an encrypted copy in a folder on storage the clinic already uses (for example OneDrive, Dropbox or a network drive), so a laptop can sync from home. That provider holds only encrypted files.
Clinic dashboard and usage counts (coming soon)
A clinic will be able to see how OpenBark is used, on its own hub computer. If a staff member turns on "Share usage counts", their device sends daily counts to the clinic hub: visits recorded, minutes recorded, notes drafted, notes signed and calls recorded, with the app version and platform. Counts only: never patient names, transcripts, notes, reasons for visits or recordings. The counts stay on the clinic's hub. A member can stop sharing at any time.
This website
The website has no analytics and sets no cookies. It loads fonts from Google Fonts, and reads the public download count from GitHub, where the installers are hosted. An early account page at /portal is being retired: it kept only an email address and an optional short profile, and you can delete that account there or by asking us.
Where data is stored
Your clinical data stays where your clinic keeps it: on your own devices, your clinic hub and any storage your clinic chooses. We don't receive it.
Children
OpenBark is a tool for veterinary professionals. It isn't directed at children.
Your choices
- Delete a visit, its recording or all your data from within the app. Deleted visits are removed permanently after 30 days.
- Sync: turn it off on any device, or remove a device, from the app.
- Delete an early website account from the portal, or ask us at we.care@animl.health.
Changes
If this policy changes, we'll update this page and its date. Significant changes are noted in the version history.
